Fiber supplement cost calculator
Compare fiber supplement prices by cost per gram or cost per 5 grams using each product’s current label and container price.
To compare fiber supplement prices, multiply servings per container by dietary-fiber grams per serving, then divide the price by that total. This gives cost per gram of fiber. Use the same comparison amount for both products—such as 5 g—because bottle price and cost per labeled serving can hide large differences.
Normalize before you compare
Compare equal grams of fiber
Replace the sample values with the current price and label from each product.Product A

Enter valid values for both products.
Comparison only: Equal fiber grams do not make different fiber sources medically or functionally equivalent. This tool compares price, not effectiveness or personal dosing.
What numbers should you enter?
Use the current package or manufacturer label for the product and size you can actually buy. Enter four items for each product:
- Product name: include the fiber source or format so the result stays understandable.
- Container price: use the ordinary checkout price you expect to pay.
- Servings per container: copy this from the Supplement Facts panel.
- Dietary fiber per serving: use the grams on the Dietary Fiber line—not total powder weight or a front-label ingredient number.
Our guide to reading a fiber supplement label shows where those values come from and explains common serving-size traps.
The fiber cost formulas
First calculate how much declared dietary fiber the full container supplies:
total fiber (g) = servings per container × fiber per serving (g)
Then normalize the price:
cost per gram = container price ÷ total fiber (g)
cost per 5 g = cost per gram × 5
You can replace 5 g with any common comparison amount. That number is a mathematical unit only; this calculator does not recommend how much fiber to take.
A worked price example
The starting values use two current US manufacturer listings from NOW Foods. These are label-research examples, not hands-on tests, recommendations, or affiliate selections. Direct prices and labels were checked September 3, 2026.
| Calculation | Organic psyllium powder | Organic acacia powder |
|---|---|---|
| Direct listed price | $19.99 | $16.99 |
| Servings per container | About 38 | About 52 |
| Dietary fiber per serving | 7 g | 6 g |
| Total declared fiber | 266 g | 312 g |
| Approximate cost per gram | $0.075 | $0.054 |
| Approximate cost per 5 g | $0.38 | $0.27 |
In this dated snapshot, the acacia product costs about $0.10 less per 5 g of declared fiber. That does not make it a substitute for psyllium. The fibers differ in physical behavior, and product price can change independently of ingredient suitability. Read the evidence-bounded psyllium vs acacia comparison before treating cost as a deciding factor.
Why cost per serving can mislead
A “serving” is defined by each product’s label. One powder might supply 7 g of fiber per serving while a capsule serving supplies 1.1 g. The two serving prices therefore measure unlike amounts.
Normalize products to the same declared fiber amount first. If you are comparing formats, the fiber powder vs capsules guide estimates capsule counts, while fiber gummies vs powder or capsules adds chewable serving sizes and sweeteners. Those equivalences are comparison math, not instructions to take that amount.
When to adjust the price
- Shipping and tax: include unavoidable charges if one seller adds them and the other does not.
- Subscriptions: use a subscription price only if you intend to keep the subscription and can meet its terms.
- Coupons: record one-time discounts separately so the result is not mistaken for the repeat price.
- Bundles: divide the total bundle price and container count consistently before comparing.
- Currency: compare both products in the same currency and use the final amount you would actually pay.
What this calculator cannot tell you
Price per gram does not establish purity, identity, contaminant control, clinical effectiveness, personal tolerance, texture, sweetness, or whether a product is appropriate for a medical purpose. Equal grams of psyllium, acacia, partially hydrolyzed guar gum, inulin, wheat dextrin, or another fiber are not automatically equivalent. The guide to soluble vs insoluble fiber supplements explains why even that familiar classification is only a starting point.
Persistent, severe, or worsening digestive symptoms—and decisions involving health conditions, medicines, swallowing difficulty, pregnancy, or a clinician-directed plan—need individualized professional guidance rather than a price calculation.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the cost per gram of fiber?
Multiply servings per container by dietary-fiber grams per serving. Divide the container price by that total. For a $20 product with 40 servings and 5 g fiber per serving, the calculation is $20 ÷ 200 g = $0.10 per gram.
Why compare cost per 5 grams of fiber?
Five grams is a convenient common unit that makes differences easier to see when serving sizes are unlike. It is not a recommendation to consume 5 g or to change the product’s directions.
Should I use ingredient weight or dietary-fiber grams?
Use the dietary-fiber grams declared for the full serving when comparing label value. Ingredient weight, scoop weight, and container weight may include amounts that are not identical to declared dietary fiber.
Does the cheapest fiber per gram offer the best value?
Not necessarily. The cheapest suitable product may be useful to identify, but different fiber sources and formulations are not interchangeable. Price also does not prove quality, effectiveness, or that you will use the product consistently.
